Thread Pitch
Definition
The distance between adjacent thread crests, measured parallel to the thread axis. In metric threads, pitch is expressed in millimeters. In imperial threads, pitch is the reciprocal of threads per inch (TPI).
Practical Note
Coarse pitch (UNC, standard metric) is easier to assemble and more tolerant of damage. Fine pitch (UNF, fine metric) provides higher tensile strength and better vibration resistance.
