Tap Drill Size
Definition
The recommended drill size for creating a hole before tapping internal threads. The tap drill size is slightly larger than the minor diameter to allow for thread cutting and chip clearance.
Practical Note
Standard tap drills provide approximately 75% thread engagement, which is optimal for most applications. Higher engagement (smaller drill) increases strength but requires more torque to tap.
