Motor Power Factor
Definition
The ratio of real power (kW) to apparent power (kVA) in an AC motor. Indicates how effectively the motor uses electrical power. Low power factor increases current draw and electrical losses.
Practical Note
Induction motors typically have PF of 0.80-0.90 at full load, dropping to 0.20-0.40 at light loads. Improve PF with capacitor correction or VFDs.
