Fillet Weld

Definition

A triangular cross-section weld joining two surfaces at approximately right angles. The most common weld type, used for lap joints, T-joints, and corner joints. Specified by leg size.

Practical Note

Fillet welds are easier and less expensive than groove welds. Use minimum size per AWS D1.1 based on thicker plate, and maximum size should not exceed thinner plate thickness.
