Partial Fill Volume

Definition

The volume of liquid in a partially filled tank. For vertical tanks, partial fill is proportional to height. For horizontal cylinders and spheres, partial fill requires segment or cap formulas due to the curved geometry.

Practical Note

Horizontal tank dip charts are non-linear. At 50% fill height in a horizontal cylinder, the actual volume is about 50% (happens to work out due to symmetry). Other fill levels require calculation.
